Rolfing ® Stractural Integration
What Is Rolfing® Structural Integration?
Rolfing® Structural Integration is a form of hands-on somatic bodywork that aims to bring the body into greater alignment and balance within gravity, supporting more comfortable posture, movement, and overall function.
Rolfing is a holistic approach to working with the human body. Rather than focusing only on the area where pain or discomfort is felt, I look at the body as an interconnected system. Through a progressive series of sessions, we work systematically through different layers and regions of the body to improve organization, balance, and ease of movement.
The work focuses on the body’s connective tissues — including fascia, tendons, ligaments, joints, and the relationships between body structures. Over time, injuries, repetitive patterns, stress, emotional experiences, work environments, and daily habits can create tension, restrictions, and compensations within the body. These patterns may limit natural movement and contribute to discomfort or imbalance.
Using a safe and organized process, Rolfing® Structural Integration works step by step to help release these restrictions and support the body’s natural ability to move with greater freedom, stability, comfort, and efficiency.
As the body becomes more integrated and balanced, many people experience improvements in posture, mobility, breathing, body awareness, and overall ease in daily life.

Our Services
At Range of Motion — Rolfing® Structural Integration, I offer the traditional 10-Series of Rolfing® sessions, typically recommended on a weekly basis. Each session builds upon the previous one, allowing the body time to integrate and adapt to the changes created through the work.
For those who are unable to commit to the full series initially, it is also possible to begin with a shorter 3–4 session approach. From there, we can continue based on your experience, goals, and how your body responds to the process.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does Rolfing® hurt?
Rolfing® may occasionally take you outside your comfort zone, but it should never be overwhelming or exceed your ability to comfortably tolerate the work.
Some people describe Rolfing® as intense because it works with connective tissue and long-held patterns in the body. However, effective Rolfing® does not require pain. The work is most beneficial when it respects the body's nervous system and its capacity for change.
Every session is tailored to your individual level of comfort and readiness. Communication during the session is encouraged, and pressure can always be adjusted as needed.
What should I wear for a Rolfing® session?
Rolfing® is performed directly on the body's tissues, so clothing that allows access to the areas being worked on is recommended.
Men typically wear shorts or underwear. Women often wear shorts and a comfortable bra or sports bra.
Before the session begins, a postural and movement assessment is usually performed. You may be asked to stand, walk, bend, or perform simple movements so that your structural patterns can be observed. Choose clothing that allows you to move comfortably and feel at ease.
How long is a Rolfing® session?
A typical session lasts 60–75 minutes. Since each session may also include postural and movement assessment, please allow up to 90 minutes for your appointment.
What happens during a Rolfing® session?
Rolfing® is a hands-on form of bodywork. Most of the session takes place on a treatment table, with you lying face up, face down, or on your side.
The practitioner works with different layers of tissue using varying levels of pressure and may occasionally ask you to perform specific movements. Portions of the session may also be done while sitting or standing to support functional integration.
Can Rolfing® improve posture or athletic performance?
Yes it can!
While Rolfing® is not specifically focused on posture correction or athletic performance, many clients experience improvements in both.
By reducing unnecessary holding patterns, improving alignment, and helping the body organize itself more efficiently in gravity, Rolfing® can create greater freedom of movement, balance, and coordination. Improved posture, easier movement, and enhanced performance are often natural outcomes of this process.
How many sessions will I need?
The traditional Rolfing® process consists of a series of 10 sessions, with each session building on the previous one.
However, meaningful results can often be achieved in fewer sessions. If you are unsure about committing to the full series, you may begin with three sessions and then decide whether you would like to continue.
Is Rolfing® safe?
Yes. Rolfing® is generally considered safe when performed by a qualified practitioner.
Each session is adapted to your individual needs, goals, and physical condition. It is important to inform your practitioner about any medical conditions, injuries, surgeries, or other health concerns so the session can be appropriately modified.
What can I expect after a session?
Responses to a Rolfing® session vary from person to person and even from session to session.
Many clients report feeling lighter, more balanced, more relaxed, or more aware of their posture and movement patterns. Others may experience temporary soreness, fatigue, or a sense of adjustment as the body adapts to change.
It is generally recommended to stay active after a session, but avoid unusually intense physical activity for the rest of the day. Giving your body time to integrate the changes can help maximize the benefits of the work.
Can Rolfing® help with chronic pain?
Yes. Chronic pain is often associated with long-standing patterns of tension and compensation throughout the body. While addressing the site of pain alone may provide temporary relief, it does not always resolve the underlying cause.
Rolfing® Structural Integration aims to identify and address the structural and movement patterns that contribute to strain and compensation. As the body becomes more balanced and organized, unnecessary tension may decrease, movement can become easier, and chronic pain is often significantly reduced or may even disappear.
Please note that results vary from person to person and depend on many factors, including the nature and duration of the condition.
Can I continue training during the Rolfing® process?
Yes. Continuing your regular training and physical activities during the Rolfing® process is generally encouraged.
On the day of a session, however, it is recommended to avoid unusually intense exercise. Light to moderate activity is typically beneficial and can help your body integrate the changes from the session more effectively.
Is Rolfing® covered by insurance?
Coverage varies depending on your insurance provider and benefit plan. Some insurance companies may reimburse Rolfing® sessions under certain health and wellness benefits.
At the end of each session, you will receive a receipt that you may submit to your insurance provider or benefit program for reimbursement. At this time, direct billing is not available.
